About Us
Community Voices is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in the community we serve. As local residents, we believe community issues are best understood and communicated through the lived experiences, history, and perspectives of the people most directly connected to them.
We support our community through accessible information, local connections, and civic engagement. We provide clear, community-centered news and information that helps residents understand local issues, what is at stake, and how public decisions may affect our community, environment, quality of life, and future.
We believe access to information is essential to meaningful participation. When we have access to understandable, locally grounded information, we are better able to engage in public processes, share our perspectives, build relationships, and help shape our community.
Through dialogue, collaboration, and inclusive community engagement, we work to support a more informed, equitable, and sustainable future rooted in transparency, accessibility, and local voices.

Our mission is to build and support an informed, connected, and inclusive community by expanding access to locally grounded information, encouraging civic engagement, and strengthening opportunities for meaningful public participation.

Our Community Work
Our community work is grounded in equity, inclusivity, sustainability, and accessibility. We believe local news, public information, and government processes should be understandable, transparent, and accessible to everyone, not only those already connected to positions of influence or power.
We believe stronger communities are built when diverse lived experiences, local history, and underrepresented perspectives are included in public conversations and decision-making.
We focus on:
• Providing clear, accessible, and community-centered local news and information;
• Helping residents understand public processes, local issues, and government actions;
• Encouraging transparency, public accessibility, and informed civic dialogue;
• Highlighting underrepresented voices, lived experiences, and community history;
• Supporting inclusive community participation and engagement;
• Sharing equitable and sustainable community-based solutions and ideas, and

We believe communities are better prepared to shape their future when people have equitable access to information, meaningful opportunities to participate, and spaces where their voices and experiences are valued and heard.
As part of this work, Fluvanna Horizons Alliance serves as a community organizing initiative focused on supporting a healthy, sustainable environment and thriving communities that protect local people, rural character, natural resources, and quality of life. The initiative helps connect local information-sharing with civic engagement and community participation so local decisions reflect the needs and perspectives of residents and communities, not solely the interests of powerful industries or corporations.

Local Government Transparency
Residents deserve open, transparent, and accountable government. Public decisions should be made in ways the community can see, understand, and participate in.
Community Voices provides information and resources to help residents better understand public meetings, public records, and civic participation.
Understanding FOIA & Public Participation
Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act helps ensure the public can access government meetings, records, and decision-making processes.
Citizens should expect:
• public notice of meetings
• accessible public records
• opportunities for participation
• transparency in decision-making
• accountability from public officials
Protecting Our Health & Natural Resources
Our community deserves clean air, clean water, healthy neighborhoods, and responsible land use decisions.
We provide information about:
• cumulative industrial impacts;
• air and water concerns;
• land use decisions;
• infrastructure projects, and
• sustainability and environmental
health.
Inclusive Community Voices
Everyone deserves access to information, meaningful participation, and the opportunity to be heard. Community Voices works to expand civic engagement and elevate the perspectives of those often underserved, overlooked, or underrepresented in local government, media, and public decision-making. By strengthening access, inclusion, and community participation, we help build a more informed, connected, and equitable community.
